“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…” Ecclesiastes 9:10

This year at Swan Christian College we are striving to actively build a caring community that encourages each student to persevere and strive to achieve their personal best.

Welcome Back

The first weeks of school are always very exciting as the campus comes to life with happy voices and faces. And so it has been as the 2016 school year commenced at Swan Christian College.

It was a pleasure to see our students gather for our Year 3-12 assembly as we commenced our second week. As I said at the assembly, Swan Christian College is a big place and it is important that students growing through the College see as much as possible of what lies ahead, and those who are getting ready to complete their learning are able to look back at where they have come from and encourage younger students for the path ahead. These assemblies will not happen often but they are important.  We will use them to celebrate our learning and make plans for the future.

I also used the assembly to share with students and staff my vision for our College and I share that message with you here:

Since I arrived here at Swan, many people have asked me what my vision is for the College. What do I want for us all – every person in this room?

A place where God is glorified – all that we do and all that we achieve should be to the Glory of God. We should start and end with knowing God in all we do. In Colossians 3:23 I read “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord not for men”

A place where aspiration is expected – what is aspiration?  I would describe it as the desire to be the best you can be. The idea that you should always do your best in everything you do has become a rare quality in this present age. The idea of pursuing excellence should be a central part of our daily lives.

A place acknowledged for learning excellence: every person in the College is on a learning journey. A place where you can explore your dreams and find answers to questions that perhaps only you want to know. A place where each member is known and feels cared for.

A College that is proud to be part of its community and that the community is also proud to have in its midst.

As we embark on our 2016 learning adventure, I encourage all members of the College community to get involved. Start conversations, share your dreams, aim high and savour each moment of the journey. Make the most of the year God has given us. We can’t have it back once its gone.
