Recognising and Valuing the Contribution of Christian Schools

It is well established that Christian schools make a valuable contribution to the intellectual, economic, social, cultural, moral and spiritual capital of Australia. Students who attend these schools acquire knowledge, skills and values enabling them to go on to make a considerable contribution as workers and taxpayers of the Australian economy. They also contribute as citizens to the moral capital of the nation, the social dynamic of their communities and the cultural mix of their society. Christian school students make a wonderful contribution to the common good.

“Australians value choice, and todays parents are prepared to pay for an education if they feel it will align more closely with their values, expectations and aspiration.” McCrindle National Education Report, 2015.

As we have witnessed the significant growth of the independent school sector from 22% in 1970 to 35% in 2014, it is clear to see that Australians are increasingly willing to pay for services that were once provided solely by the government. In summary, Australian parents are increasingly willing to pay for what they value.

Within the Christian school sector there is a large body of ‘enrolment numbers’ and local anecdotal evidence to support the Christian schools’ claim that parents are seeking an educational approach that is inspired by a biblically guided vision of life. Christian schools aspire to:

  • the promotion of Australian values
  • local school community engagement
  • a caring environment
  • cultural relevance
  • ethical and moral guidance
  • the teaching of Christian character traits
  • effective discipline
  • educational quality and strong academic standards
  • highly dedicated staff
  • individual attention
  • the development of each child’s potential.

These are the reasons why many Australian parents are willing to make a significant financial sacrifice and then choose a Christian school for their children’s education. At Swan Christian College we value the investment parents make in their child’s education.  We take the trust this demonstrates very seriously, and look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure that each child in our care has every opportunity to be the best they can be.

2 Timothy 3:16-17:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work”.
