We are excited to announce the recipient of the Luke Durbridge scholarship for 2021: Ella H (Year 11).
The Luke Durbridge scholarship was initiated by Swan Christian College alumni Luke Durbridge in 2015 to encourage and support athletes in the fields of cycling, triathlon and adventure racing.
The money provided through this scholarship can be used in a range of ways such as purchasing equipment, travel to events and coaching.
In 2019 Ella was tested for, and then invited to participate in a three-month program run by the West Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) as part of a talent identification program. Since then, she has been training and competing in sprint and marathon kayaking.
Some of Ella’s achievements include:
- Competing in the 2019 Sprint State Championships and placing Second in the ‘Under 16 K2’ (two-person Kayak) 200m sprint.
- Competing for Swan in the Augusta and Eagle Bay Adventure Races over the past two years, placing First in the ‘Mixed Under 18’ teams on both occasions.
Finally, Ella has also qualified to represent WA at the upcoming National Sprint Kayaking Championships which will be held in Sydney in May.
Please join me in congratulating Ella on receiving the Luke Durbridge scholarship for 2021.
