It was such a privilege to welcome our 2022 Swanonline community this year. On 25 January we had 120 students and their parents at Swan Christian College campus. Swanonline is known for delivering quality Christian education online and has a diverse student cohort.
The day started with a warm welcome from our Acting Principal, Mr Terry Eason, and the Head of Swanonline, Ms Marion Poynton. Our Year 12 Swanonline Leaders, Emma Pivac and Declan Kinsella, were introduced to students and welcomed them to start the day. The morning was packed with a variety of sessions, getting to know teachers, fellow students, and various parent focused workshops.
This year we engaged an organisation, YSafe, to deliver separate parent and student workshops on cyber bullying, laws around sharing content, online wellbeing, screen time and maintaining a responsible online reputation.
Students organised a weekly timetable for tackling online schoolwork and scheduled Zoom sessions, crucial to setting up healthy routines from the beginning of the year. Staff also addressed and supported students to explore ways to best switch between online activities and social settings as well as using Canvas, our online learning platform.
Mrs Michelle Bishop presented a parent information workshop on managing home life with a child learning online, and also inclusive education.
The day was full and packed with information and a welcomed break was enjoyed by all with a sumptuous morning tea prepared and served by the Swan Christian College Hospitality team.
