On 12 September, Swan Christian College came together on campus to raise awareness for mental health on R U OK Day. Students and staff wore yellow accessories, such as scarves, ribbons, hats, and socks, to remind everyone to check in on those around them who might be struggling.

How Ya Bean Café joined in the effort by serving special yellow R U OK cupcakes for $3 each before school and during recess. All proceeds from the sales went towards R U OK?, an organisation dedicated to connecting people and helping protect them from suicide.

If you’re worried about someone, remember these four important steps to start a conversation that could change a life:

  1. Ask
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in
