We are delighted to share a heartfelt message of gratitude from Major Naava Brooks of The Salvation Army Swan, acknowledging the impact of our staff and students in their community garden project. Through this collaboration, our students and staff have worked alongside Swan View Christian College and the Swan View community to cultivate a garden that not only serves as a source of nourishment but also fosters a spirit of unity and support.
At Swan Christian College, Service Learning is a major component of our teaching. We aim to incorporate it into our curriculum as much as possible to ensure our students gain hands-on experience in making a positive impact and helping the community. This partnership with the Swan View community is an excellent example of how our students learn the value of service by actively engaging with those around them.
The garden’s harvest has provided ingredients for nourishing meals—soup and sandwiches—that benefit those in need through Swan View Salvos, Swan View Primary School, community pantries, and Midland Meals, an outreach supporting the homeless. Our Swan Trade Training Centre students have also contributed by crafting outdoor seating and cabinetry for an op shop, further enhancing the Swan View community spaces.
We look forward to continuing this partnership into 2025, building on the shared values of compassion, service, and community.
