NAIDOC Day on Monday 19 June at Swan Christian College was an unforgettable celebration! Our Junior School and Senior School students participated in NAIDOC Day related activities.

We were privileged to host Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse as our special assembly presenters. Singer-songwriter Gina Williams and Guitarist and collaborator, Guy Ghouse, who together and individually have won multiple WA music awards, and Gina, who was awarded Australian of the Year in 2017. Their mesmerizing performance showcased the power of music and storytelling, blending ancient language and contemporary sounds.

Sammy is an Aboriginal woman of the Djugun,Yawuru and Bardi Jawi Tribes. She owns and operates her gallery on Great Northern Highway in the Swan Valley. Sammy came into school to work with the students on two large canvases, engaging them in story and self. They contributed to parts of the canvas that make up parts of our story here at Swan.

The day left us with a deep appreciation for Indigenous cultures and a renewed commitment to cultural preservation.
