On Wednesday 18 November, the Year 10 Basketball Specialist students ventured to Bendat Basketball Stadium to compete in the School Sport WA 3×3 basketball competition. This is the second time this competition has been run, and the first time that Swan has been involved.
For those unfamiliar with 3×3 basketball, it is a modified version of basketball, played within the three-point line, with three people on the court per team at a time with one substitute. Games are played as a first to 21 points and are extremely high intensity, but short in duration. It is also an official Olympic sport, scheduled for the Tokyo Olympics.
Swan took three teams to the competition in the All-Schools division. It took a couple of games for the boys to get into how the game should be played, however, once they settled in, they played really hard and secured many wins throughout the day. They were not the champions, but all teams finished in the top half of their pool.
I am looking forward to the competition next year where our current Year 9s will have the opportunity to take part.
