Apprenticeships and Tax in the STTC

The STTC Trades program is intentionally focused on preparing students to seek employment as apprentice tradespeople upon graduation.

Three of our Year 12 electro-technology students are fortunate enough to already have been offered apprenticeships with RNM Solutions, starting as soon as possible after school finishes. RNM also employed four of our Year 12 graduates at the end of 2015.

In his email to the STTC staff, Mr Kevin Taffurelli, Director and General Manager, wrote “Just to keep you informed, we have finished our application process for this intake of apprentices. I am pleased to say that we have made the decision to offer three of your students Apprenticeships this intake in September. We were going to keep it to two but the level shown by these applicants were exceptional throughout their application process. You should be very proud of the level and standard of students that are benefiting from your program at Swan Trade Training Centre.”

One of the unfortunate downsides of employment is taxation! Our Electro Trade Trainer, Mr Matt King, organised for his twin sister, Mrs Rebecca Pink, a qualified CPA, to come in and provide a free seminar to the Year 11 and 12 STTC’s students, introducing them to the new world of income tax. It appears to have been an invaluable session based on the number and breadth of questions – especially around what are allowable deductions for tradesman.
