Year 7 student Ciara has been selected in the Calisthenics Association of Western Australia’s (CAWA) State Team.
Ciara will be competing in the Australian Calisthenic Federation’s 31st National Championships in July. She is one of 30 girls in the Junior Team aged 11 to 13 years, which is part of a total team of 135 girls and personnel representing Western Australia. These athletes are at the elite level of this artistic sport and have committed themselves to many hours of training which shows their dedication to the team.
Prior to the National competition in July, the Junior Team will perform in Perth at the CAWA State Team Spectacular Concert.
Ciara’s parents are extremely proud of their daughter and her achievements.
“We feel extremely proud of Ciara, the gentle and caring person that she is; apart from her sporting talent. There were about 70 girls who tried out in Ciara’s age group but only 30 girls were selected to represent WA in the Junior State Team,” said Mrs Mather.
Ciara will be competing in six team events starting with figure march, clubs swinging, rod twisting, free arm (gymnastics), aesthetics (a form of ballet) and fancy (song and dance/musical theatre).
“Training is rigorous and the team has been training since late last year for the big competition taking place in the July school holidays. Ciara enjoys calisthenics very much and she would encourage young girls who enjoy performing and having great friendships to get involved,” she added.
“We hope that more friends and staff at Swan Christian College will come support Ciara and her WA team contingent at the National Calisthenics Championships in the July school holidays. Details are available on the Calisthenics WA website.”
Please join us in congratulating Ciara on her outstanding sporting achievements. We are wishing her all the best for her future endeavours.
