The Junior School successfully participated in the Quarter Finals of the 2018 National Virtual Debating Competition, winning the debate on the topic ‘Students should be able to choose their own subjects starting in Year 5’ against Tara Anglican School in NSW.
The team consisted of Janneke Baard, Maan Dhammu, Mithrem Master and Ciara Mather. They now go on to the semi-finals on a date to be arranged.
Here are reflections from Maan and Janneke:
“The debate against Tara Anglican school was a lot of fun. I learned new skills about debating. During the debate, as the opposing team was speaking all, we all came up with some amazing points to rebut them. This something we were really poor at, at the start. Overall, I cannot wait to be in the next debate.” – Maan
“So far, my experience in debating has been great. Before I did this, I knew nothing about debating and I’ve learnt heaps. In this experience I haven’t just learnt how to debate but I’ve learnt how to work well with other people and I’ve even had the privilege of strengthening some friendships.” – Janneke
