Story and Challenge in Year 9 is designed to help students in their transition from childhood to adulthood. In Term 1, Students began to discover their own family history.
Each week they have been challenged to speak to family members about a specific element of their family past and have then shared their discoveries with their peers and mentors through circle discussion.
Circle discussion incorporates a tool called a ‘talking stick’ which allows the students to speak without interruption to ensure their story is heard. It has been incredible to hear of the new discoveries that students have made as they research their family past; from family history in Western Australia to sacrificial acts made during wartime. Knowing and sharing these stories are vital foundations to healthy development as humans because they link us to our past, create connections in our present and allow us to build upon them in our future.
We hope that the Living Well program can become a weekly topic of conversation between you, your student and the significant others in their lives. Keep your eye on the Parent Portal for up-to-date information about the current class discussions so that you can help them in their transition from child to thriving adult.
