This year, due to COVID 19, the state-wide Languages speaking competition “Side by Side” was rebranded as “Family by My Side”. In order to adhere to social distancing, students taking part in the competition had to be true siblings and receive no help from the school for their entry.
Tom Hurst, one of our Year 11 Japanese ATAR students, decided to teach his brother Jack in Year 7 some of the Year 11 vocabulary and structures at home and together they submitted a video entry to the competition.
This entry was judged to be the best entry in the Secondary School category in WA, and the College was awarded our second glass trophy in the “Side by Side” competition after winning both the Year 7-8 and Year 9-10 categories last year.
Mrs Howard attended the Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday 12 November at Canning College, together with the boys’ parents Paul and Rachel Hurst. You can view the boys’ entry here. Congratulations, Tom and Jack!
