This week it was exciting to farewell our 2016 Year 12 graduates and share a final assembly celebrating their achievements with staff, secondary students and parents.
For the students it was a time to reminisce while also looking forward to the future with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. I shared with them King David’s counsel to his son Solomon in the following verse and encouraged them “to be strong and courageous and get to work”.
Then he continued, “Be strong and courageous and get to work. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; he will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly”. 1 Chronicles 28:20
I concluded with the following Irish blessing:
May the stars always remind you that you have friends, that, however apart, you are together.
May you recall always with gratitude that you are blessed with the best of friends – your family.
May you treasure always the friends you have made at school,
And remember that friendship is a gift to be treasured, not squandered.
May you learn to be a good friend to yourself.
May this continue to change you.
May you never forget that,
Wherever you journey in life,
You are most richly blessed with the friendship of God.
And May God hold you in the hollow of his hands.
