I hope you are looking forward to Christmas and the New Year which can be a wonderful time spent with family and friends, reflecting on the year that has gone by.

The Swan Christian College yearbook has traditionally served as a way to reflect on everything that has been happening at Swan Christian College throughout the year, but due to its publication date in Term 4, we have never been able to include events taking place towards the end of the year.

To celebrate the full diversity of opportunities and events that our students enjoyed this year – from Swimming Carnivals in Term 1 to our Awards Assemblies in Term 4 and everything in between – we have decided to move the publication date of the yearbook from Term 4 this year to Term 1 next year.

This will allow our publications department to include all of this year’s highlights, including events that will take place late in Term 4, in a well-designed publication that I hope will find its home on your coffee table for a number of weeks where the whole family can peruse its pages.

As in previous years, each family at Swan Christian College will receive one copy of the yearbook, which will be handed to the oldest student in the family in Term 1 2021. Our Year 12 graduates will receive an additional copy which will be available for pick-up from the College as soon as the yearbooks have been made available to families.  If you find you have difficulty collecting from us, please let us know when you receive advice that the book is ready and we will work with you to find an alternate way to make sure you get your copy.

As the end of the year rapidly comes towards us, I am encouraged by the many positive stories I am hearing from different sections of our large College community. Despite the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, teachers, parents and students have all continued to demonstrate a desire to do their best while at the same time showing care and a desire to enhance our community.

In the past two weeks, we have managed to run revised models of the Year 12 camp, Year 9 camp, awards ceremonies, strings concert and Fenceline Theatre awards. While I am sure I have missed some, I have attended many of these and am encouraged to see community spirit, academic and social growth, a keen desire to engage and celebrate all that we have been able to achieve despite the uncertainty of the year.

I am certain that you would agree that God has been very good to us here at Swan and I look forward to seeing our students finish the year well, satisfied that they have made the most of their time here this year and looking forward to what 2021 will bring.

As we look towards next year, I have this week discussed with staff the need to be ready to deliver learning differently should there be another outbreak in WA over the holidays and the school is forced to return to learning@home for a period.  Can I ask all parents to ensure that any changes to contact details are communicated to the College so that we can stay in touch and ensure each of our children continues to have the best possible learning engagement with their teachers and each other? You can update your details via email to reception@swan.wa.edu.au or by clicking on this link: update your details.

I am encouraged when I read Isaiah 58:11 “The Lord will always lead you. He will satisfy your needs in dry lands and give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has much water, like a spring that never runs dry”.

I believe God is guiding us through this time and he is with us as we continue the journey.
