Learning from the Pros

We enjoyed the company of two AFL players who were drafted from the Swan Districts Football Club last year. Jake Pasini (Port Adelaide Football Club) and Riley Garcia (Western Bulldogs) entertained the Year 10 Specialist Football class with stories and a Q&A session.

The boys participated in a friendly game of End Zone football with the class, seeing the young Jack Lawson earning best on ground honours. Riley is a small forward/midfielder who displays explosive and high energy talent, whilst Jake is a key defender known for his ability to spoil and be super competitive one on one. His foot skills and penetration of kick is something to be desired.

Our specialist program continues to grow in popularity within the College and continues to offer students access to an understanding of high-end talent AFL players and an understanding of the requirements of playing football at the highest level. The program is focused on proving students with a sound understanding of skill development and providing endless opportunities to grow their skillset.

Des Headland joined the College during our NAIDOC week assembly and also participated in our Specialist Football program. Again the group was able to get insight into the AFL system from a player drafted to the Brisbane Lions and finishing his career at the Fremantle Dockers. Indigenous awareness and knowledge of the history of our game is key learning of the Football program.

Zac Fisher from Carlton Football club entertained the group last week and we have the pleasure of welcoming young talented Swan Districts player Denver Grainger-Barras to the group next week.  Denver is predicted to be taken high in the 2021 draft. Zane Trew (College Alumni) and Swan Districts player will also join us with Denver, as he also prepares for the upcoming draft.
