Two of our Swanonline students, Kailani M (Year 10) and Carly B (Year 9) competed in Pony Club of Australia's National Prince Philip Mounted Games on Sunday 23 October. Five states competed for the title: New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory, Tasmania and WA. Their team took 1st place and became National Champions. Congratulations to Kailani and Carly for an amazing achievement!
Setting a schedule is vitally important. Students need to schedule everything from sleeping and eating, to studying and exercising. It is one of the best ways to manage inevitable exam stress. Students need to look after themselves when they have big demands in their life.
We are nearing the end of the school year and it is important to ensure you are on track to having your school fees fully paid by the end of this year. Recently we welcomed our Year 7, 2023 students onto the campus for their Orientation Day. Meeting new families at the front of the administration block where the five House tents were set up in the Faction House colours, was an opportunity to have some intentional conversations. Several of the students expressed their excitement of the day but confessed that they were also a little nervous and anxious, which is a feeling that one would expect. Praise God the day went well, and many students went home happy having made new friends.
Some say opportunity knocks only once, but this is not true at Swan. As House Coordinators it is part of our job to get students to open the door when it does knock. 2022 has been a year of much opportunity when it comes to House events. Many students have opened doors and, in some cases, even kicked them down. These have all been opportunities to grow as individuals, to sometimes step out of comfort zones, to build resilience and to make new friends and memories.
On Wednesday afternoon, 26 October, Year 9 and selected Year 7 Japanese students connected with one of our sister schools in Japan, Hojo High School in Kasai city, Hyogo prefecture.
Congratulations to students who have achieved high honours for their sporting achievements recently. Congratulations to Daniel B (Year 12), Jeandre K (Year 10) and Harrison S (Year 8) for being selected to the ACC Athletics All-Star team for 2022.
Selected Swan Christian College students participating in Swan Worklink were invited to attend a showcase run by BAE Systems and the Defense force at the RAAF Base Pearce over the recent holidays. These students joined 20 other students from Derby District High School who had flown down for the event.
Our Year 11 Outdoor Ed students recently canoed down Blackwood River in Nannup from 25 to 28 October. Mrs McPhail and Mr Dallin led the students and taught them how to plan and prepare for the trip. 10 students participated in the camp and a bus trip took them down to Nannup, accompanied by two teachers, one canoeing support instructor and one support driver.
Our Junior School grandparents enjoyed a lovely picnic on the Junior School Campus with their grandchildren on 1 November. The sun was out and it was the perfect day for a BYO picnic outdoors.
On Wednesday 19 October, Pre Primary students and teachers enjoyed a visit from a local wildlife rescue expert and hero Andrea, from Express Wildlife Rescue. She impressed us with her huge heart and 40 years of local knowledge. Then surprised us with two adorable little joeys called Sugar and Scooby Doo. Our hearts melted and we just knew we needed to help! So, as part of our STEM learning the pre-primary students have become Wildlife Engineers!
At the beginning of Term 4, the Kindergarten, Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes were fitted out with a Redcat sound system. The Cat system enhances the learning environment by evenly distributing the sound of the teachers voice through the indoor learning space. Via a flexi-mike, that hangs around the teachers neck, the teachers voice is wirelessly projected to a wall mounted speaker, positioned at the rear of the class.
Delaware North is hiring hospitality positions for Perth Airport, and they are always on the lookout for the next generation of superstar hospitality workers.
