Our students in Kindy A brought joy to the residents of Regis Aged Care as part of the Service Learning Program.
One of the purposes of the visit was to help students understand a little more about elderly people and their needs. The Bible says to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Luke 6:31. The students decided to show love and appreciation to the elderly, because that’s how they would want to be treated if they were a senior person.
The visit began with singing “You Are My Sunshine” and other songs which the seniors knew and really enjoyed singing along to. Mr Dietrich accompanied the group on the piano, which added a special touch.
The Hokey Pokey dance was very popular with the residents of the aged care centre; they joined in doing the actions in their chairs as the Kindy students danced up a storm. The students also played the parachute game and supported Mrs Bennett when she read a story to everyone.
The students’ drawing skills were put to good use as they drew portraits or pictures to give to some of the elderly. We left the lovely residents and their helpers with flowers and sparkles in their eyes, and they gave us big smiles.
Thanks so much Mr Hockley for organising our visit. It warmed our hearts to bless other people.
