The future is a fascinating place. We can spend countless hours thinking about it, daydreaming what may be, but inevitably the future doesn’t always look like we thought it might.
Confucius said: “If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people.”
My name is Josh Newland and I am the College’s Careers Advisor. It is a great passion of mine to see our students not only succeed in their studies but also once they leave the College. My hope is that they pursue excellence, have resilience and that they are great ambassadors of Swan, their families but also, of themselves. Education, knowledge and learning are paramount, and we hope to instil the lifelong learning mentality in each student that passes through Swan Christian College.
My role involves gathering information on post-secondary options. Working with the Head of Learning Areas, the Head and Deputy Head of Senior School, and the Deans of Year (including the STTC) I help students find pathways beyond Year 12. This could include:
- TAFE/RTO’s
- University (including bridging courses)
- Apprenticeships/Traineeships and courses (including RSA and Barista)
- Holding Expos at the College as well as arranging visits to University Open Days/Nights
- Work Experience and Workplace Learning
- Attending Parent Information evenings.
Students and parents can come see me in my office any time, by making an appointment or just popping in. I can be contacted on 9374 8358 or via email at josh.newland@swan.wa.edu.au
