On 19 November 2023, Swan Christian College participated in the LEGO League Regional Tournament at Aquinas College.
The students worked tirelessly since Term 2 to prepare an Innovation Project and design a robot that was used to solve a real-world problem. This year’s theme was: ‘How we share our own hobbies and interests with others can be an expression of our creative selves’.
The team had to identify and research the problem, design a new solution, create various models or prototypes, share it with others, collect feedback and communicate the impact of their solution. The solution that they presented was an edible, building cereal called Brekkie Bricks Cereal. This is a snippet of the presentation:
It is a combination of fun and nutrition, made for all ages, to help kids get the energy they need for their growing bodies. Brekkie Bricks are a playful twist on the classic Lego Bricks, building on the love of construction to the kitchen. These bricks are made from healthy and tasty ingredients and inspire you to build, create, and learn simultaneously each colourful piece adds a burst of flavour to your masterpiece. Edible Lego bricks satisfy your creative cravings and provide a delightful mix of playfulness and creativity, making breakfast time a healthier and more enjoyable experience.
Overall, they performed well in the competition and received many commendations for their innovative idea. We look forward to LEGO League next year.
The Lego League Club: Extracurricular Program
The Lego League Club has been running on Thursday afternoons for students from Years 5 to 10 since 2016 and allows students the opportunity to build on their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills such as robotics, engineering and coding. The Lego League program also improves communication, leadership, teamwork, resilience and public speaking abilities. These are valuable skills that students carry into the rest of their schooling lives and future careers.
