The annual Swan Christian College Languages Showcase 2020 on 18 November saw around 30 students of French and Japanese get on stage in the Maali Mia Theatre to present their best work to an audience of family and friends.
The presentations consisted of traditional roleplays and speeches, as well as readings and recitals of the students’ own picture book and poetry, created as part of the new Creative Strand of the WA Languages Curriculum. Before the presentation, the participating students and their parents/guardians selected the winners for the annual Swan Manga Drawing Competition and were served French and Japanese delicacies by the Languages Ambassadors.
But what did the students themselves like the best about the night?
Hannah (Year 7): “I enjoyed showing people what I’m capable of in French and what I’ve done this year. It was also good to listen to the other students in French and see what they’ve been learning.”
Layla (Year 7): “I liked hearing the older kids do theirs because it showed what you can do in French in the higher year levels. I also loved the food because you could learn about other cultures and places.”
Liam (Year 7): “I enjoyed performing my poem in French because it was an achievement. I also liked being the MC and helping to run the night.”
Alisa (Year 10): “The best thing about Languages Showcase was seeing the performances, the variety of cultural foods and the overall atmosphere. It was very positive, and I had a wonderful time.”
Matthew (Year 8): “I really enjoyed the variety of introductions and presentations. Being able to do my own presentation in Japanese with my friends was fun as well.”
Alyssa (Year 7): “The best thing about the languages showcase was the games for each language. My favourite game was the paper, scissors, rock in Japanese.”
A big thank you, arigato and merci to everyone who joined us in celebrating Languages learning at the College and helped us make the night a huge success once again!
