One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing, or hearing about, students in the Swan community excelling in a sport that they have put time and effort into pursuing both at Swan and in their own time.
We would like to acknowledge and celebrate some of our students who have recently experienced such successes.
Tayla
In April this year Tayla was selected to the Australian Under 17 Netball Squad after her performances at the national championships in Hobart, Tasmania. As part of the national squad Tayla was able to attend the Australian Squad netball camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra over the last school holidays.
Tayla and Boudene
Tayla and Boudene were recently selected to the ACC All Stars netball team for 2022. This was their second or third selection in this team. Students from the 70+ ACC schools across Perth are able to nominate and trial for this representative team. After a number of rounds of trials both Tayla and Boudene were selected in the final 10 player squad. The ACC team will play a tri-series of games against representative teams from the Independent Girls’ School Sports Association (IGGSA) and School Sport WA (SSWA) on Sunday 16 October.
Kate
Kate has been selected to represent Western Australia in under 12 hockey the 2022 School Sport WA (SSWA) national championships to be held in Canberra next week.
School Sport WA say that state representation is an honour and often represents a significant stepping stone in the ultimate achievement of senior and national selection.
We wish you all the best for the future!
Austin
Austin has been selected to represent Western Australia in Under 16 Soccer the 2022 School Sport WA (SSWA) national championships to be held in Sydney in September.
School Sport WA say that state representation is an honour and often represents a significant stepping stone in the ultimate achievement of senior and national selection.
Directly before the SSWA national championships Austin will be representing WA at the Royal Adelaide Show in the Under 18 Wood Chopping, where he will compete in the underhand and standing block events.
A student of many talents!
Nick
When Nick was in Year 7 the Western Australian Institute of Sport talent identification team came to Swan. He nominated to trial and his potential in cycling was first identified. From there Nick’s interest in cycling has grown. He currently trains in some capacity every day of the week and his dedication has led him to being selected in the Cycling Development Foundation.
In June, Nick spent a month in Belgium competing in a series of cycling road races as part of the Foundation. In Belgium, Nick competed in 8 races of approximately 100km each, winning three of them and placing highly in others.
Nick’s short term goals are to trial and be selected for the national team.
To get to the level where you are making representative squads and travelling around Australia and overseas, takes an enormous amount of dedication, discipline, resilience and love for your sport. On behalf of the Swan Christian community, we celebrate with you and look forward to hearing more of your journey going forward.
