Teaching is more than a job—it’s a calling that shapes young minds and hearts. In his book Just Teaching, Jonathan Eckert introduces the FEW framework, emphasizing feedback, engagement, and well-being as the keys to effective teaching and learning.

At Swan Christian College our teachers and staff seek to engage our students. Engagement is a critical element in your child’s education. When students are truly engaged, you can see it in their enthusiasm for learning, their respect for school rules (like wearing their uniform properly), and their excitement about their subjects. They aren’t just going through the motions—they’re actively involved and eager to learn.

Getting involved in various activities and events often means stepping out of comfort zones and taking risks. Real learning happens when children push beyond what they know, embracing new challenges and the possibility of both success and failure. This approach helps them develop a growth mindset, understanding that mistakes are part of the learning journey and an opportunity for growth. Engaged students don’t just learn—they grow.

Engagement isn’t limited to the classroom; it has broader implications for our community. At a recent Faith in our Future event organized by My Christian Schools, senators and MPs heard stories and testimonies from individuals who attended Christian schools. This event highlighted the importance of supporting the freedom of Christian schools in making educational choices. While the proposed anti-discrimination bill has good intentions, some recommendations could challenge the values and mission of Christian education. With the growing popularity of Christian schools, it’s important to discuss how this bill might impact them. If you would like to show your support of Christian education please head over to this link to communicate to a Member of Parliament and Senators.

The cycle of engagement, learning, and growth is beautifully illustrated in the story of Paul in Acts, as he shares the gospel across Asia Minor in the Bible. This engagement with divine truth has profound implications for our lives and understanding of our purpose. We hope that every student at Swan Christian College not only excels academically but also grows spiritually, discovering God’s purpose for their lives and the promise of eternal life.
