Teaching young adolescents

On Thursday 28 February and Friday 1 March Swan Christian College hosted the WA leg of Adolescent Success’ Australian tour.

The event was attended by several Middle and Junior School teachers from Swan, representatives from Northshore Grammar, Southern Hills and Ellenbrook Christian Colleges, as well as Heads of Middle School from outside of SCEA.

We explored teaching and learning that best caters for young adolescents, considered research about well-being and transitions, and fellowshipped with others. The days were full of joy and challenge as we worked through a range of activities. The conference affirmed our direction and particular strategies that are already in place in Middle School at Swan, and helped us think through areas to grow. I commend all our staff who attended for their positivity and participation. We are blessed with staff who have genuine hearts, and expertise in nurturing young people at Swan.

Our next step will be to present some of our findings at our next whole school staff meeting. I would also like to thank Chef Rob for the catering, Mrs Bullard for organising the event and Mr Scott for his permission to host the event.
