The Book of Everything

Fenceline Theatre Company will contribute another piece for the 2019 Fringe World Festival, which runs from 18 January through to 17 February.

The Book of Everything, based on the novel by Guus Kuijer and adapted by Richard Tulloch is a very different piece from this year’s ANYMAN. The Book of Everything is set in Amsterdam just after the end of the Second World War in 1951. It tells the story of a family, as seen through the eyes of Thomas, the young son. In many ways, this family has its own battles as witnessed by a father that confuses harsh discipline as love.

This play is relevant on so many levels in our contemporary society. It looks at the faith and belief, and the role the patriarchy has within that. How community and belonging are the very things, in many ways, that we have lost; and how essential they are to rebuild connections and providing avenues for those that struggle. It juxtaposes childhood imagination humour and delight against the fear and doubt that often cloud an adult’s world.

We have been so lucky to cast a wonderful ensemble group made up of our talented alumni, staff and parent body.

This play, like all that Fenceline contribute; is ultimately a story of hope.

Please join us in February, you will be enlightened and engaged.
