In an impressive achievement, Year 11 student Austin R has been honoured with the title of Football West State League U18 Player of the Year. Austin’s journey in soccer started at just 4 years old with Swan Valley United Christian League, leading to his selection for the Forrestfield United Football Club NPL U14 team in 2020. Last year, he represented Forrestfield UFC’s Under 18 squad and proudly represented Western Australia and Swan Christian College at the WA Under 16 State School National Football Championships in Sydney.
Austin graciously shared his thoughts on the award, stating, “I feel very proud and humbled to be nominated for the award and to then be presented as the winner overall Football West State League U18 Player of the Year.”
During the season, Austin’s remarkable performance included an astonishing 24 goals and his debut for the State League 1st team. Forrestfield’s U18s clinched an admirable 2nd place in the overall rankings. Austin aims for a position on the 1st team and hopes to get his club back in the top division.
Apart from his soccer achievements, Austin is also a prominent woodchopping talent. He competes alongside his family, continuing a tradition that spans four generations. Austin’s recent accolades include being named the 2022/23 season novice champion at the Perth Royal Show and securing two open championship titles at the same event.
In addition to his individual accomplishments, Austin’s brother, Ethan, a 2021 graduate of SCC, represented Australia with the Australian U21 Woodchopping team and won titles in New Zealand and Adelaide, including the Australian U21 Championship at the Perth Royal Show.
Austin R’s remarkable achievements in both soccer and woodchopping reflect his exceptional talent and dedication. We applaud his success and eagerly anticipate his future accomplishments.
