On Wednesday 22 March, the Year 5 students went on an excursion to St Mary’s Church for HASS.
We learned a lot about the old church from Father Stuart who talked to us about what they do there. He spoke about baptisms, the history behind the church and the amazing stained glass windows.
Outside, Father Stewart showed us the oldest English person to be buried in the graveyard. We had a piece of paper with information about some peoples’ gravestones, and had to find their names and write them on the sheet. I think everyone admitted it was hard because there was a little grave that was the size of an adult’s hand.
When we were finished, the teachers gave us permission to go back into the church again to see what else was in there, because where we were sitting when we arrived you couldn’t see around the corners of the church.
At about 2:45pm the teacher called us into our class lines and we said good bye and thanks to Father Stewart and headed back down the bush track back to school.
