As part of our Year 9 Science program and our increased look into STEM, students participated in the Petroleum Club of WA’s Next Generation School Program.
The aim was to educate students about the oil and gas industry and the important role energy plays in our society, and provide information on the diversity of career options available. It included four mentor sessions over the year where industry professionals introduced the students to energy, the life cycle of the oil and gas industry, careers and a mentor panel.
The program culminated in an expo day at ECU Joondalup where selected students were introduced and challenged with activities and quizzes including virtual reality walkthroughs, robotics, data analysis, ocean ecosystems and laboratory testing. The expo was a fun and interactive finale to the program and opened the students’ minds to not just the oil and gas industry but the wide range of skills and careers involved.
