Year 9 Advanced Mathematics students were given the hypothetical task to coordinate the donation of a 20-foot sea container filled with World Aid boxes destined for distribution among poverty-stricken orphanages in Africa.
Each box had to contain three items for twelve children, consisting of exercise books, tennis balls and soup cans. The students had to arrange the items in the most efficient way to minimise the volume of each box and maximise the number of boxes that could be filled into the shipping container.
The response from the majority of the students in Mrs Parker’s and my class was simply amazing.
